Abbi Falls - Abbi in Kodava means falls. This beautifull waterfall is a mere 8 km from Madikeri inside a privately-owned coffee estate .
A exciting eight kilometer road ( Galibeedu road) along with forests and coffee plantations will takes you to the most admired picnic destination near Madikeri, the Abbi falls. The stream and the splendor of the water drops splashing down from seventy feet can be observed from the suspension bridge. Even though the sparkling water drops will invite you, bathing and swimming in the water is not allowed.

Abbi Falls also pronounced as Abbey Falls is in Kodagu district. It is located in the Western Ghats region, 8 kilometers from the district town Madikeri and 268 km from the capital Bangalore. From Madikeri the falls are accessible by a narrow road to the coffee estate. Abbi Falls is on Kaveri River.

In Kodagu district numerous watercourses unite and bulge with the heavy rains and falling along the hill slope at colossal pace which hits the massive stones hard and forcing through the gaps and narrow valleys. From Abbi Falls the water flows into the Kaveri River. During the heavy rain the water flows with a very high pace. During the summer seasons the flow is significantly less. You can find a lot of leeches near Abbi Falls.

Abbi Fall is situated among personal coffee plantations with green coffee gardens and spice plantations with plants knotted with pepper plants. The roar of the falls can be heard from the road. A path through coffee and cardamom plantations leads to the waterfalls. After walking few minutes through the coffee plantations, Abbi Falls will be visible suddenly. The water of Abbi Falls coming through rocks into a tranquil pond. A suspension bridge is there just opposite to the Abbi falls from where you can view the waterfalls. If you cross the bridge you can see the Kali Mata temple on the other side of the bridge. The best time to visit is early winter when the monsoons have brought plenty of water.

Jessie Falls.
The Abbi Falls (In Kodava language Abbi means waterfall) used to be be known as the Jessie waterfall during the British period in memory of Jessie, the daughter of Madikeri's first British Captain Chiplin. Jessie was Chiplin's first daughter .

2005 - Hydel Power Project near Abbi Falls.
During 2005 a group of environmentalists have expressed concern over the construction of the Abbi Falls Mini Hydel Power Project near Abbi Falls, a picnic spot near here, saying the consequences will prove disastrous to the environment.

Another waterfalls with same name - Onake Abbi Falls.
Another falls with almost same name is Onake Abbi Falls located in Agumbe (Shimoga district, Thirthahalli taluk). Onake Abbi Falls is 400 feet high. In the Kannada language, "onake" means 'pounding stick', an instrument used by villagers to pound grains to flour. Trekking for 5 km through rainforest is needed in order to reach a view of the falls.
