The annual cultural event - 'Bengaluru Habba' - Bengalooru Habba is an annual event lasting 10 days. It is a “city celebration” in the spirit of bringing Bangalore together. Grand events at multiple venues is the USP of the Festival. Classical dance and music, folk dance and music, theatre, popular performing & visual arts, crafts and sports are presented with a unique grandeur, which positions the Habba as a very distinctive event. This also allows the Arts to be taken to the residential localities, to make it accessible to all.  Dance, Theater and Music in their glory are presented to the last man in the audience, whose appreciation is the pillar of the event. It is a free event for the citizens of Bangalore and tourists alike.

For the last eight years, AFFA has been presenting the joys of the performing arts along with the visual arts and crafts. Classical dance performances, Carnatic & Hindustani music recitals, folk dances, English & regional theatre productions, craft melas and sports competitions add to the grandeur of the festival at multiple venues in the city. Founder and Trustee of Artists Foundation for the Arts (AFFA) is Nandini Alva.

During the festival the party city evolves into a land of many cultures and traditions. The ten-day festival which was initially aimed at breaking monotony from our everyday lives and transport us to a world of art. The festival was born, when the Artist foundation in 2003 decided to have an event, which was one of its kind. The idea of having a festival for our city, which is beyond any religion or language and at the same time encourages performing arts in Bangalore was one of the factors that led to the birth of Bengaluru Habba.

When the festival was inaugurated it has attracted large numbers. Even though it is in its early stages, there has been positive response and everyone in the city is seen enjoying the festival.

The festival will provide you with a heavy dose of art, cinema, music and other events. It is also living up to its expectations by introducing a variety of art forms apart from catering to every age group.

Bengaluru Habba has all the right ingredients — from Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi and Mohiniattam dancers, Hindustani classical artistes, to head banging metal musicians. It stresses on cultural and performing arts and will gather all the renowned artistes from all over India to Namma Bengaluru.

Also, you can indulge in a wide variety of films by eminent personalities like Girish Karnad, Kasaravalli, etc that will be screened at various locations throughout the city Apart from entertainment, the talented but unheard artistes too have a great platform to showcase their talent.

It was in December 2003 that Bangaloreans first woke up to the idea of Airtel Bengaluru Habba (in those days - Bangalore Habba). As posters announcing the city's new cultural festival dotted the landscape and street art spilled over onto the MG Road Boulevard, the idea of the Habba captured the city's imagination. The vision behind the Habba that spearheads the event, has been to provide aesthetic entertainment to a wide cultural, social and demographic cross-section of people.

It is a platform that exposes the young and old in our city to the fast disappearing traditions of our communities. The Habba is, perhaps, one of the only festivals of its kind that offers people from all walks of life the opportunity to experience performances by state, national, and international greats free of cost.

In this tradition, the Bengaluru Habba has returned annually over the last seven years. The Habba has evolved to be a movement to ensure that our city is a culture loving community. Over the years the format and kind of events that are a part of the Habba have changed and added more value to the whole festival. Besides just being a platform where people could come to be entertained by performances, the Habba today has several creative dialogues, critical appreciation sessions and communication workshops making it an educative festival as well.

For the audience too, the inclusive cosmopolitan character of the city finds its reflection in the Habba. It's a good starting point for people who don't know Bangalore. It brings together the finest parts of Bangalore culturally.

Bangalore is known as the IT City, but it is also very culturally alive during the Habba. Bengaluru Habba chugs along, bringing India to Bangalore and carrying Bangalore to the rest of the nation. The city has welcomed artists locally and globally and they look forward to the Habba each year. Bangalorean's have wholeheartedly embraced the idea of the habba, they are also many clearly cheering for an increase in inclusive measures that will go a long way in genuinely taking the spirit of the event back to the people.

2014 Bengaluru Habba will be held during December.
