Tumkur is an administrative district in the state of Karnataka in India . The district headquarters are located at Tumkur. The district occupies an area of 10,598 km² and had a population of 2,584,711, of which 19.62% were urban as of 2001. It is a one and a half hour drive from Bangalore , the capital of Karnataka. Turuvekere - The temple town.

Devarayana Durga

Devarayana dhurga Known as DD hills with thick forest and mountain is about 15Km from Tumkur, is known to be center for army to Vijayanagar kingdom. This place was named as Devarayana Durga in 1696 when it was under the control of Mysore 's Chikkadevaraja wodayar before which it was known as Anebiddajari, Jatakana Durga,Kari Giri.at the tip of mountain there is Kumbi on which there is "YogaLakshmiNarasimha" temple and on maountain there is "BhogaLakshmiNarasimha" Temple . there are Pushkarnies called Narasimha thirtha , Parashara thirha and Padha thirtha.

Kydala just 5 km from Tumkur has beautiful temple with God carved from stone.

Siddaganga Mutt :

Sri Siddaganga Mutt is a sacred and service center which is a line of hope for f poor and orfan childrens as this mutt is providing Education with free Hostel facility to them, Education is provided rite from formal Education to degree and also professional cources like Medicine and Engineering is being provided to about 5,500 students. Good discipline and principles are imbibed in to these students , every morning and evening each and every student of the mutt assemble in prayer ground to offer their prayer. Historical back ground of Mutt says that this mutt was found by Sree Gosala Siddeshwara.it has rich social and cultural heritagre.

This is one of such place which is not only a ethical place but also such a place which has imbibed, preached and followed the importance of Knowledge, Science and Technology.Mutt is on Bangalore-Puna highway about 6Km from Tumkur and about 65Km from Bangalore.This Mutt was largely expanded and saw its extensive growth during Dr|| Sree Sree Shivakumara swamiji's period.

Namadha Chilume :

Is one of the historical place which has a small Streak of water flowing, it is said that this streak of water is flowing from Threthra yuga it is said in history that during Rama - sitha vanavasa, Sitha was thirsty to quench her thirst Rama aimed a arrow to a Rock from which water splurged out since than this spring of water has never got dried up even during worst droughts.Source from which this water is flowing is unknown till today.it has thick forest and beautiful Deer Safari which is quite amusing. It has beautiful Travellers Bunglow which makes staying here more pleasant.This place is 62Km to 65Km from Bangalore.8km from Tumkur

Shivaganga is about 25 km from Tumkur.

Gulur where during Navaratri 10 foot high God Ganesh made out of clay will be on display.

Yediyur is about 60 km from Tumkur where God Siddalingeswara Temple is situated.

Gubbi is 20 km from where God Channabasaveswara Temple is situated.

Goravana halli Lakshmi Temple

Goravanahalli MahaLakshmi Temple  : about 30Km from Tumkur in Koratagere taluk there is a famous Lakshmi Temple whose idol is said to be self originated , there will be special poojas which will be performed on fridays.

Kaidhala :

On South Kunigal Road of Tumkur at about 6 Km there is Chenna keshava temple whic is of Hoysala's period it is said that Idol of Sri Chenna Keshava is carved by famous architect Sri Jakanachari and his son Sri Dankanachari.

Siddara betta

Mycemco cement factory which is the earliest cement factories of Karnataka is located at Ammasandra which is 45 km from Tumkur.[www.mycemco.com]

Kunigal Farm: The oldest stud farm is found here.

Pavagada Fort: The Hill Fort built in 1405 by a Vijayanagar chieftain was the scene of fierce battle between the English and Tipu Sultan. It is famous for groundnuts.

Madhugiri: This prosperous town is known for its pomegranates and has one of the finest Hill Forts built by the Vijayanagar Kings.Also to be seen are Jain Basadis and temples. Madhugiri hill, the biggest monolith in Asia , is great for climbers also found here.

Kibbanahalli-Rajathadripur mining centres ,industrial centres centre for multi mineral mining activity and industries nearby hilly ranges.

Midigeshi Fort: The fort has a mosque and a temple complex within it and is 19Km from Madhugiri.

Marconahalli : Has a reservoir built across Shimsha river. Boating is available here.

Pattanayakanahalli: Jagadguru Sri Gurugunda Brahmendraswami mata is there.

Nidagallu betta: It is in Pavagada taluk. Its height is above 3000 feets. At the peak of the hill, a Nandi(Basavanna) is there. Down the hill there is a Rameswara temple. It is worth to visit this place once.

Vaddagere Veera Nagamma temple is 5 km from Koratgere. Goddess Veeranagamma's devotees are mainly from Southern karnataka, North Tamil Nadu and even Andhra Pradesh.

Maidenahalli(Jayamangali) Blackbuck Reserve: Among the best protected area in south India to see and photograph endangered wildlife like blackbuck.

Chennarayanadurga : A fort built by a poligar Chennappagowda.The view from the fort is spectacular.

Sumpoorna Basketball School , Betta Shambhunahalli, Kuramkote Post - the first residential basketball school of India .

Kote Anjeneya Swami Statue

Kote Anjeneya Swami Statue is newly built statue which is quite mesmeric to look at which also has a beautiful panchamuka Ganapathi temple and Anjeneya temple attached.

Ammani Kere : Is one of the well Known lakes in Tumkur which is likely to be handed over

to Lake Development authority to convert in to Recreational Area.

Distance:-

Has good Road Transport as city is situated on the National Highway No.4.The City is on the broad gauge train route from Bangalore to Shimoga and Hubli via Kadur.
