Venkatappa Art Gallery
The gallery has about 600 paintings, which are on display throughout the year. The art gallery, which is divided into two halls, has stone sculptures from the Mathura and Khajarao schools of art. The other hall is dedicated to pottery and clay articles belonging to the Indus Valley civilisations. It also exhibits 20th century landscapes and the occasional contemporary art show. On the ground floor, the paintings of K. Venkatappa, born in 1887 to a family of court painters, are on display.
This place is dedicated to one of the great painters Venkatappa, who is born to a family with a lineage of painting. This great artisan works are displayed in one of the buildings at the ground floor. All his paintings and art work gives attention to the minutest of the details, be it the portrayal of Lord Shiva or the painting of the monsoon or the picturesque landscape. Every brush stroke reflects the creativity and dexterity of this great artist.
The gallery also hosts paintings of other renowned artists like M F Hussain, Yusuf Arakkal, N S Bendrem, Hariram, Hanumiah and works of other renowned artists.
